Seeing Crazy Horse

So today's project here in the Black Hills was to have a look at the Crazy Horse Memorial. Someone got the Bright Idea (I surmise from the four Faces on the Hill?) that this sort of exercise shouldn't be limited to depicting Dead White Guys , so he got busy Blasting a likeness of Crazy Horse into a Black Hills Granite Cliff. Rather than driving to the official viewing spot, we took a path less traveled by parking in the town of Custer and bicycling 5.1mi up the Rail Trail to a less used Vantage Point.

Here is Jan starting up the old Railroad Grade.

This is the Granite formation into which all the Faces were, or are being, Carved.

And there is the Crazy Horse likeness, as viewed from the Mickelson Trail.

Then we got to go downhill the 5mi back to Custer. Wheee! Not as Steep&Fast as the ride to Deadwood, but for this one we didn't cheat.

This sign is posted on the trail.

Nearly the same view today that Illingworth caught in...

...this Photo of the same Granite Cliff.

This Heron was Fishing in a Beaver Pond beside the bike path.

All this Upping and Downing on Bicycles led to...Yup, Large appetites. So at the Hot Springs KOA, a Pasta Salad with Carrots, Broccoli, Tomatoes, Ripe Red Bell Peppers, Olives , String Cheese and Italian Dressing was assembled. A Pic was to be included in this Post but unfortunately (remember the appetites?) Supper was Gobbled before a Camera could be brought into action...It was Yummy though.

The Nighthawks have been Hunting [Bugs] aloft all afternoon here, and just now (8:00PM), I heard one do it's "Bulllbat" diving sound!
