Riding the Peavine

Jan found us another bike ride. Nicknamed the Peavine because of the way it twisted and turned and wandered about to get through the rough country it traversed, there used to be a Santa Fe RR branch which ran from Ashfork to Phoenix. Abandoned in 1974, a piece of it in the Granite Dells of Prescott has been turned into a Rail Trail.

Then

Now

While only five miles long it is an absolutely gorgeous ride.

Jan was so busy watching
the scenery that she
almost ran over this guy.

Another kind of wildlife
typical to the West.

You can scramble
through these rocks
for hours.

Besides the Peavine four miles of the old narrow gauge right-of-way that went to Crown King is now a Rail Trail. We biked it this morning.

Another beautiful ride...
...through the Granite Dells.

Katz loved the campground (Point of Rocks Campground)...

...and so did we.
