Down to Deadwood

0800 hours: Katz seems to think her Humanoids are a bit cracked to be so excited about a 17.25mi bikeride from Dumont (el.6250ft) to Deadwood (el.4550ft), but Lew and Jan know it will be a LOT of FUN because...

...They did it a year ago with their Best Friends, Donna and Jim Stewart.

The first 1.6mi is uphill to the Summit of the old Burlington RR branchline to Deadwood. See Jan Work!

Then the FUN starts. It is Downhill the next 15.6mi into Deadwood.
I had to slow down a bit in order to use one hand for the Camera and the other hand for the Handlebar but you get the idea.

Yup, the Homestake Goldmine across the valley. According to the sign, they went down 8,000ft for the Yellow Stuff. Temperature of the rock at Depth was 130deg F! Shades of Tolkien's Mines of Moria, Eh???

And here we are several miles later below the Homestake Headframe...
The Creek in the foreground has been responsible for destroying Deadwood a couple times, although the Old Town was destroyed in 1879 by Fire.

1100 hours: Back in Deadwood in plenty of time to serve Katz her Lunch (Fancy Feast-the smelly stuff).

1800 hours: Time for evening drinks (it's 8:00PM in Pittsburgh, right?) with a couple episodes of the HBO series "Deadwood".
