June 16--Travels to Montmartre

We woke up early to lovely sun and nice walking temperatures. So since we are all in education...we know how to adapt plans and bailed on the museum and went for a walk in the Montmartre "artist" area. We got on the Metro. Then we went to a the area where we could ride the funiculaire - called an incline in Pittsburgh! Beside the entrance to the funiculaire was a carousel. It was a double-decker, although the horses didn't have the sharp quality of the older horses. Have to look up age of the carousel another day. Here is the view from Sacré-Coeur church. We took these pictures from places that were in the movie Amelie. Then had a great lunch...everyone ate crepes. They were delicious. Next was watching the artists. Did Jan really spend money on art work? Vote and tell me what you think! Stayed tuned for an answer. We went and looked at the line to go up the Eiffel Tower and passed on that activity. On to a museum since we have a museum pass. We chose the D'Orsay. We only saw one Renoir (although we need to return) and this very lovely Degas ballerina. It is lovely. I am truly astonished that I can take photos of the art work. As long as you don't use flash (and lots do) its ok. Its why so much of the artwork is behind glass (which I hate the glare of the glass). To end the day's adventures, the other ladies went on a boat tour, while I stayed behind and wandered about. I found another bike rental place. I love this idea. You rent a bike and return it at that station or another station within 2 hours for a pass French people can get. I tried to get a pass and the machine said no. A kindly Parisian tried to help me but the credit card wasn't accepted. He thought because it was an "English" credit card. Sigh... no bike for me. Then another supper... ...and finally back to the apartment, we were learned that my luggage will be returned tomorrow. A full and very pleasant day.

  3. Aha! I think the Ballerina at the D'Orsay is from the same mold as the Sculpture we view at the Clark (Williamstown, MA)?
